Selection screen Help
General
This screen allows members to specify criteria from which words / phrases
are selected at random from SimplyLingo.com's language database.
It is recommended that the first row of selections is left unaltered.
However, should you feel the need to change anything the function of each
selection is detailed below
Language direction
Direction that translations will take place. The default is from
Secondary Language to Primary Language. It is recognised that this
direction is the easier for language students to tackle first.
Learning Mode
Available selections are Reading & Listening or Spelling & Typing. It
is recommended that the default of Reading & Listening is used.
By selecting the defaults in the first two selections, students are able
to complete the full learning cycle
for the words & phrases chosen. This means that following completion of the first options
(Secondary Language to Primary Language + Reading & Listening), in the next screens students
can select to proceed to the next stages (Primary Language to Secondary
Language + Reading & Listening), (Secondary Language to Primary Language
+ Spelling & Typing) and on to (Primary Language to Secondary Language +
Spelling & Typing) thus completing the full cycle for the selected words
or phrases.
Number of items
It is recommended that the number of items are left at the default. This
is regarded by many as the optimum number of items to be learnt at a
single time. The number may be changed though if you so wish.
Mastered items included or not
It is recommended that ordinarily the default selection is used. Mastered
items are those which the student has mastered by successfully getting
the translation right six times in succession. These items are then
suspended for a period of sixty days. When a selection is requested,
recently Mastered items by default are excluded from the selection.
Should you wish to override the defaults you can, by selecting Include
Mastered Items or Mastered Items Only. The last option can be useful for
revision particularly after a period without practice.
Multiple Selections
All the remaining selections allow multiple choices. To select
multiple items, hold down the control key while clicking several items in
turn.
Level
This is the perceived grading of the difficulty of words and phrases.
Of course, it can't be absolute and the assigned levels are purely
subjective. Assigned Levels are 1 (easiest) to 9 (hardest) all of which are
available for selection for Premier members. Select all Levels or as many
as you wish. However, Standard members are limited to Level 1 only.
Type
Indicates the Type of the objects to be selected. Select as many as
you wish from Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives, Adverbs, Phrases or
unspecified.
Category
Indicates the context of the items to be selected. Select All or one
or more of several Categories.
Select Button
When all selections are finalised click "Select Now" to action the
selections and continue to the next page .
